Private Childbirth Education Classes


My goal as a childbirth educator is to help expectant parents feel confident and prepared for their upcoming birth experience. I am a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE), and have the unique perspective of teaching both in and out of the hospital.  This allows me to offer private, in-home childbirth classes to families in the Boulder/Denver area, and include information about specific protocols and procedures in the hospital.

I enjoy teaching private childbirth classes because I can cater the material to what you and your partner want to learn, and we can schedule the class at a time that is convenient for your schedule.  So if you or your partner tend to be more private or have really busy schedules, a private class might be the perfect option for you!  I also teach private “refresher” classes for families who have already had a baby, especially if they had a difficult birth experience and are looking for education and support about what they can do differently this time to increase their chances of having a positive birth.

The birth of your baby is a really important experience, and I highly encourage you to get the information and resources you need to ensure the best birth possible.  While all private classes are catered to your specific needs, birth place, and birth plan a typical class will cover the following:

  • The signs and stages of labor
  • Envisioning your ideal birth
  • Communicating with your care providers
  • Coping mechanisms for labor, with an emphasis on natural coping techniques
  • The partner’s role in childbirth and beyond
  • Breastfeeding 101
  • Techniques for soothing a fussy baby*
  • Postpartum planning and resources



In order to accommodate various schedules, I offer private classes on weekday evenings or weekends.  I tend to schedule private classes for anywhere from 4-8 hours, depending on how much information you are looking to cover.  A private class costs $30/hour (plus a $15 materials fee), and most couples tend to schedule a 6-hour class for a total of $195.

*As a Certified Happiest Baby Educator, I can include the Happiest Baby on the Block curriculum as part of your private class.  As an addition to your private childbirth class, the Happiest Baby class is only $50 and includes the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD & Soothing Sounds CD (retail value: $36)!!
